Volunteer Centre - Cape Town

The Volunteer Centre is a non profit organization which is based in Cape Town, South Africa but has developed strong National and International Partnership over the past 32 years.


The Volunteer Centre is a non-profit organisation for local and international Volunteers. 

With our global network of voluntary service organisations and relationships with local and national   NGO´s and communities, we place, educate and support Volunteers for more than 30 years. We provide unique volunteer opportunities with the objective of bridging the cultural gap between South Africa and other nations as well as the immersive experience to help those who really need it and make a huge or a little change.

Hello my name is Theresa and I come from Austria. I'm working at Baitul Ansaar, a child care center. I like the kids and all the stuff. I enjoy the time in South africa. Its a beautiful country.

Cédric Schweizer 

My name is Cédric, I‘m 26 years old and I‘m from Switzerland. I‘m doing a voluntary service in Cape Town for a year, working in a primary school to do sports with the children.

Emilia Th. Klakl

Hey, I’m Emilia from Berlin, Germany and I’m a volunteer in the Christine Revell Children’s Home. It is a home for children up to 5 years who have been neglected or abused or whose families can’t take care of them. 
I work mainly with the 2-3 year old kids in the Crèche and my tasks are to play with them, feed them, help them in the bathroom, do creative and physical activities and be there for them.

Hey. My name is Tolja and I am from Germany. Last year I finished school. I am working at Pinocchio Creeché. The kids are between 2 and 6 years old. I love my Job.

I'm Florence and I'm from Switzerland. This year I finished school and now I'm volunteering here in Cape Town. Afterwards, I'm going to study back in Switzerland.

Paulina Machalica

Hey, my name is Paulina Machalica and I’m a volunteer at the Saartjie Baartman Centre. I’m working at the Crèche of the shelter with children from two up to five years. We are playing with them, singing, watching movies and doing activities like making animals out of paper. Besides that we are preparing the holiday programmes for the children and teenagers who are older than seven years.  I really enjoy to work with the kids, to do activities with them and to be a part of the Saartjie Baartman Centre.

My name is Johanna and I'm from Germany. I just finished school and now I stay at Christin Revell Children's Home as a volunteer for one year.

Hi my name is Yara and I am supporting the Volunteer Centre in Athlone for one year. I just finished my Bachelors Degree in educational psychology and sociology and hope that I'm going to have a great time in Cape Town.

Tobias Fischer

Hey, my name is Tobias and I am working at the YMCA Athlone as a volunteer in the youth department. Since we are working on a low budget level, we are asked for creativity and resourcefulness to set our after school program. Besides making lunch for the kids every day, we are doing arts, singing, sports, life skills and more. I enjoy being at the ymca and contributing something to a safe space for children to not only share my skills and knowledge, but also just to have fun with them.

Hey, my Name is Tilman and I am from Germany. I am volunteering in South Africa for the YMCA Athlone.
There I assist as a youth leader doing an afterschool and homework program and I am teaching kids economics in a school twice a week. Furthermore I try to make the community that I am working in with the YMCA benefit from my knowledge and skills as much as possible.

Hey, my name is Emma and I am a German volunteer who graduated this year. currently I am volunteering at the „Saartjie Baartman Centre for women and children“ which is a safe place for emotionally, mentally, sexually, verbally or physically abused women and children. Since abuse is a very relevant topic in our society, it is important to empower survivors of abuse and to offer support systems and counseling.

Hello my name is Niklas, I‘m from Germany and volunteering at the Mary Harding School in Athlone.
Currently we‘re planning a football and a cooking program for the kids.

Fabian Schwarz

Hi, my name is Fabian and I am working at the YMCA Athlone. Here at the YMCA we are offering an after school program for the kids living in the area. In addition to that we are teaching kids in a school about economics twice a week. We also have a program for the older kids every friday evening. Working in the Youth Department is fun because we have a great team.

Raja Schäfer

I'm working in Baitul Ansar witch is a home for 0 to 11 year old children, me beeing placed in the 6 to 12 month section. Between changing lots of nappies and washing the little ones I enjoy the playtime even though there isn't much the babies can do yet. My choice to go to South Africa was rather random I was hoping for something far away and different - as well as some interesting work and new experiences.
